Nice to meet you. My name is David, but everyone calls me Day.

I’ve been in Yamasaki for more than half my life now. I came here to teach English when I was in my 20s. Since then, I’ve raised my family and started my own English school.

I started gardening around 2010, I think,  but I don’t exactly remember. At first, I just wanted to grow some pumpkins for Halloween, so my kids could get a taste of that part of American culture. Then, I saw yacon on TV, a root vegetable, and wanted to eat it, but no stores sold it, so I started growing it. Since then, my interest in gardening and farming has grown.

At first, my wife suggested that I grow something useful and edible, like tomatoes or cucumbers, but I said I wasn’t interested. She also told me not to expect her to help me because growing vegetables is my hobby. She didn’t lie. She visits the garden two or three times a year, only.

The field is now about seven times larger than when I started, and I’m planning to rent another field to keep it growing. Luckily for me, it’s only a one-minute walk from our house to the field, so I can tend to it or go get food easily.

Over the years, I’ve grown over 40 different foods. Many of your common fruits and vegetable, but also some unusual foods.
Growing food has turned into a fun hobby for me, and now I’m growing more than my family can eat. I’ve shared food with friends and neighbors over the years, and now I think I’m ready to start selling it.
